is education a human right?

Ilana Gaster: We have socialized public schools, until the age of 18!

Craig Virani: The Best education is self taught. You are responsible for your own "education", no rights needed from government bureaucracy to get the education that you are responsible for getting yourself

Lorelei Lilburn: No. It's a constitutional right up to age 18.

Fermin Tara: But that's socialism!! You commie!!

Chet Nozick: Again, in a country as wealthy as America, it should be.

Felipa Nosis: Yes.This right is explicitly stated in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted in 1948: "Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit. …" (Article 26)...Show more

Curtis Josef: ! I really wish people would use that right.

Irvin Guiles: yeshow else can someone better their life?

Clare Hoard: until you are 18 yes.why do so many people think they are entitled to free things?

Merna Fauset: no, and most certainly not by way of international edict...not in the USA. this should be a state issue and not a national and most certainly not an international issue.and the hera web site and the UN in general need to adhere to their own doctrines before they dictate to the rest of the world what they think or feel is basic human rights. they don't have a very good track record to be dictating to anybody what human rights are in this world whether on a human or political level !!!...Show more

Sherita Gallati: Yep.

Eli Trapeni: I wouldn't call it a human right. However, in a modern country like the US an education is needed for a reasonable chance in life.

Caleb Chapman: Yes an education is a human right.

Luis Farlow: Educat! ion goes way beyond a human right, it is an utter necessity. I! t is not just for the individual but for the state. A country that does not invest in life long education and training is an impoverished state.

Mitzie Clough: Yes

Lourie Mcroberts: It is in this country as well as most other western countries.

Amada Greising: IF CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE LEADERS, THEY SHOULD BE EDUCATED.

Eliseo Luma: I think so, yes! Now when one speaks of four years of college and on to post graduate school, then the person receiving the education should be required to contribute to paying for that education!

Dee Depung: No, it is not a right...but it is the desired outcome for the betterment of our nation and the world. It is best when ALL are presented with the equal opportunity to seek education. That will not guarantee their success but only their opportunity. The rest is up to them.

Janita Tetlow: Education, in that some sort is needed to be a productive member of any society, is a duty of every individual. It is not! a "right".Liberals are Socialists, I DARE you to tell me where you find any mention of "education" in the Constitution of the United States. IT AIN'T THERE!!

Alberto Kozub: Rights are powers of the individual that others are obliged to observe. Any right you have to education is the right to educate yourself. Anything beyond that depends on someone else to provide it, be it your parents, community, or the federal government, and is therefore not a right. What you do have a right to in regard to education is to not have the Governor of the State stand in the doorway of the school blocking you from entering just because you are black (as Democrat Governor Faubus did in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957). There's no obligation to provide schools, but if they do, everyone gets an equal shot at attending them....Show more

Hans Sachetti: until the kid is 18. they are then an adult and should take responsibility for themselves. BTW, this is regarding CITIZENS and thos! e that are here legally. it pisses me off that we have to shell out tax! dollars to illegals and anchor babies when citizens (those legally here) are not taken care of.

Catheryn Small: Yes. You should have the right to get an education. Higher education is better earned. You have no right to be provided with a higher education at someone else's expense.
